The Path Forward announced today the launch of an awards program that will serve as an annual galvanizing event for the movement.
The first annual “Juneteenth Awards,” to be held June 19, 2021, will recognize outstanding work in support of each of The Path Forward’s six areas of focus.
“We expect that this awards platform will enable the great work of the winners and contenders to be broadly amplified and supported, while educating all of us about how the effective social change is being conceived and executed,” said TPF Board member Bishop Robert Stearns. “Consequently, we intend for the Awards initiative to lead towards the unifying and durable broadly systemic change that we hope to achieve.”
An award will be provided in each of the six areas of focus. The award will be chosen by a committee with widely regarded experience and expertise in each issue area, and will be chaired by a member of the Advisory Board of The Path Forward.
These awards, which will be given in every category at an event that alternates between Compton and New York City on Juneteenth, will provide a meaningful reward and wide recognition to the group or individual that is best manifesting each of these principles.
“We anticipate that there will be many deserving winners in each area, even though there is only one winner,” said Stearns. “We intend to celebrate the work of those who could win. Consequently, we will showcase the work being done by many of the remarkable individuals and institutions who might win in our public outreach throughout the year. “
