King Randall and The X for Boys
A hands-on approach to empowering and educating at-risk youth
In 2019 at age 19, Randall set out to combat the high poverty and crime rates in his community through the founding of “The X for Boys,” a youth organization that provides life skills and trades training and a safe, supportive space for young men ages 11-17. The X for Boys teaches boys the true meaning of manhood, masculinity, how to be a team, and how to be protectors and providers for their communities. In just two years, The X for Boys has achieved an 86% increase in reading comprehension rates and a 91% improvement in grades among participants. Additionally, 82% of current participants are proficient in general contracting and 93% are proficient in automotive repair. Randall’s program has achieved a 0% recidivism rate among participants. To continue advancing his mission, King is set to open The X for Boys Life Preparatory School in Fall 2021.
Randall discussed the successes he and the youth he serves have experienced as well as some of the obstacles he faces in being a “young” leader, and overcoming entrenched beliefs and bureaucratic systems to affect change. Video below:
