OUR WHY

THE PATH FORWARD

We exist to improve Black lives.

At a time of heightened energy and purpose in the pursuit of racial justice and systemic change in America, we’re building an expansive, inclusive coalition — a movement — with a common goal: achieving measurable, transformational, positive outcomes for Black communities.

Our movement transcends political labels. We reject sloganeering, virtue signaling, cancelling, and the hijacking of a deeply just impulse for activism to serve an often unrelated and destructive agenda.

We believe in salvation and transformation, not destruction.

We believe in looking beyond the who, to the what. We believe that people we generally disagree with can be right on important things, and people we generally agree with can be wrong on important things. The truth, therefore, is not easy to find. But it is well worth the search and we are excited to do the hard and rewarding work to pursue it.

Our diversity — religious, geographic, political, and in lived experience — is fundamental to our success. In this diversity and with shared values we join together on a common path.

The Path Forward.

We are...

Rooted in faith

and welcoming to those with different religious, political, and ideological beliefs -- including each other!

United

by a forward-looking vision of progress that is defined by significantly, measurably, immediately and continually improving Black lives.

Committed

to identifying, strengthening and spreading the most demonstrably effective work being done to lift up Black communities.

Pledged

to building the broad-based coalition that is necessary to achieve this, as with any other, kind of genuine social change.

Inspired

by the conviction that we can, together, enable genuine, lasting and quantifiable improvement in the lives of large numbers of people in the communities we seek to lift up.

How We Measure Success

We WILL JUDGE OUR success by the impact we make.

Lives Improved

We will measure in real-time the number of lives we help to transform, the pain we heal, the relationships we build, and the opportunities we create.

Coalition strength

The breadth of the coalition is a proxy for the durability of the solutions.  Accordingly, we will measure our success in building a coalition across racial, gender, political, religious and ideological lines and with participation from a wide variety of American sectors (faith, business, intellectual, political and others).

Power Of Process

The Bible tells us: “Justice, Justice shall you pursue.” We learn from “justice” being used twice that the ends and the means must be just. And we learn from the use of the word “pursue” that process is a sacred end in itself. Consequently, we will hold ourselves accountable to the solutions we support and to the rigorous inclusiveness and constructive open-mindedness of the process we take to arrive at them.

A dwelling place for God

Our diversity is a modern manifestation of how God reacts to what he sees in Genesis 11. Observing that the, “whole earth was of one language, and of one speech” — that people are thinking in one way — God changes their language and spreads them through the earth. It is through the resulting diversity that God’s truth would be told, God’s name would be known and His offspring (we) would be given the opportunity to make the world a dwelling place for God.

MEet OUR TEAM

United by shared values and the strength and breadth of our diversity.
