Our Focus

six areas of focus form the "pillars" of our movement. They drive our efforts and energies.

In each area, we will seek to identify, strengthen and socialize the most effective work being done by individuals or institutions.

Criminal Justice Reform

We believe in supporting and strengthening the relationships between police departments and citizens, en route to ensuring that people in vulnerable communities are safe and respected.

Economic Empowerment

We believe in supporting and strengthening the successful tradition of Black entrepreneurship. This encompasses opening pathways to capital, markets, ideas and ensuring that regulatory infrastructure enables Black businesses to flourish and grow.

Education Reform

We believe that all children — regardless of the color of their skin, their parents’ wealth, or the neighborhood in which they live — should have secure and dependable access to schools that can best help them to flourish. As each child is uniquely created in the image of God and education is the primary obligation guaranteed in the Bible, it is our responsibility to ensure that all American children are given the knowledge, skills, confidence and social capital that a great school can provide.

SACRED LISTENING

We believe that people from a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives and orientations have an enormous amount to learn, teach and contribute to the public conversation. We believe that participants in public conversations should  interpret generously, delight in struggling together towards truth, enjoy being challenged, changed and convinced and welcome the uncomfortable conversations that are the birth pangs of progressive change.

ANTI- SLAVERY

The work of emancipation — of freeing slaves from individuals and regimes that effectively or even “legally” own or completely control them — is, tragically and perhaps surprisingly, very much ongoing. There is slavery, from sex slaves to construction slaves, all over the world — including in every American city. We are committed to ending this atrocity with commensurate urgency.

SUPPORTING AFRICA

We believe that our opportunity and responsibility is transnational — and, consequently, are dedicated towards lifting up those in need in Africa and working to help to demonstrably improve the lives of our brothers and sisters there as well.
